Primary issues as I see it are with the size of the proposed Kroger, the unappealing design that is not appropriate for a 'downtown' type shopping area and Kroger's lack of interest in considering the five pages of changes recommended by the City's Planning Dept. Kroger recently opened a very nice store in Grosse Pointe on Kerchival so they are capable of doing so much better if they're required to do so.

Many of us who are opposed to this Kroger proposal were not opposed to the Plums Market that we were supposed to get a few years ago. It's design and size was more in keeping with Royal Oak. I myself shop at Costco, Trader Joes, Hollywood and Holiday. I do Meijers and Whole Foods about 6 times a year. Krogers on Woodward is nasty but I do go to the one near my office that is clean. Don't do Papa Joe's as it's hands down the most expensive and I've had poor customer service there. I enjoy having a variety of stores to select from.

As to employing more folks - I doubt that will occur as the store on Woodward has lease only to 2014 and Beaumont owns that location and will eventually expand. So more jobs is likely a wash. AND the new locataion is in the city's DDA - tax dollars STAY in the downtown and do not go to the City's general coffers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6353374825940142203.post-38644277618069188842011-06-20T19:32:41.822-07:002011-06-20T19:32:41.822-07:00I went to Whole Foods today... There was only one item in the mix that was $o.69 higher.

Just an FYI... The items compared are all "staples" in our house: Coffee creamer, yogurt, canned beans and tomatoes, etc.GayeLynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06716142312648160257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6353374825940142203.post-45900454744015735132011-06-20T15:58:04.311-07:002011-06-20T15:58:04.311-07:00It's a shame Whole Foods wasn't in the mix...It's a shame Whole Foods wasn't in the mix. I'd be shocked if Holiday was more expensive than them, and I put them on the same level as far as the niche they're going for.Ryan Merayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03826412354636514974noreply@blogger.com
